Family Camping Trip- Potato Creek State Park

Months ago Matt’s uncle came up with the fun idea for the ENITRE family to go camping. He set it all up…all we had to do was show up. Matt had a fire test already scheduled for the weekend, so the plan was to go after the test. Friday afternoon he received a text that the test was being moved to Sunday. Hmm…so the choice was leave right away or not go at all. Sami had been looking forward to camping…so there was no way we were missing out. I threw some clothes in a bag along with whatever supplies we needed in about 10 minutes. Seriously…I’ve never moved so fast!
We got to the campsite just as the sun was going down. Matt and Malachi quickly set up our tent. Then we all settled in at the campfire for smores.
Sami was SUPER excited to sleep in the tent. I was thankful my friend Michelle lent me her air mattress so I didn’t have to sleep on the hard ground! Ha! Skylar wasn’t too sure about it though, and she screamed bloody murder when Matt tried to put her in the sleeping bag. In the end I wound up holding her in my arms all night. We actually slept pretty well.
We woke up with the birds,and had a super delicious breakfast. After breakfast we went over to the nature center. We watched the birds for awhile and checked out all they had to see.

Upstairs they have a fun children’s play area….

Then I heard a little announcement that they would be having a hands on class about turtles. Sami and I made our way down to it…
It was pretty fun. We learned about the different turtles that are at Potato Creek, and even met this little guy…

Then she worked on her craft…but before she would start she raised her hand…”excuse me…are these markers non-toxic???” Hmmm….who knew that was a concern of hers??? Hehehehe!

Sami thought it would be fun to head down to the beach area. When we got there Matt ran into someone from the apprenticeship. Earlier in the day we ran into someone he knew from work. He knows people EVERYWHERE er go…
We also ran into a few familiar faces….

Skylar and Lilly were SO cute together splashing in the water and holding hands. Poor Lilly had a little bit too much fun, and she had to go back to get some dry clothes on.
There was this super long wall that Sami thought would be fun to walk along. Matt and Malachi got in on the fun as well.

Sami wanted to go on a hike next…so…off we went…

It was starting to rain so we went back to grandma and grandpa’s cabin for lunch. Followed by some fun at the playground while Matt took down our tent before it poured…

Everyone wound up back at the campfire late in the afternoon…more smores ya know!  

We were all chatting and we heard “uh guys…a little help please?” Poor Sami…

Sami was so sweet with the little girls…always entertaining them…

Before long it was pouring…we all had enough of that junk…so we ran away to the cabin! About 30 seconds after we got there I saw this…

With the rain we decided to cook and eat inside…it was a nice end to a nice weekend.

I even had fun…and didn’t complain once! And I told Matt…we should do this again! Yikes…who am I???
