Movie Night- Tom and Huck

Tonight's movie night.....Tom and Huck!!!

I chose this movie because playing on Tom Sawyer Island is a favorite spot of ours at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland! There are caves to explore, tree houses to climb in, and pirate gold to discover!!! It is a great place to burn off some energy! I realized the kids didn't know who Tom Sawyer is...so this was a great choice!
(I told Sami that JTT was the heart throb of many girls when I was little and she thought that was extremely funnyl! Ha!)

We started the evening with a treasure hunt! I made this map with clip art images and scrapbook paper.

The map led the kids all over the house where they found an envelope at each location.

After they found all of the envelopes they had to decipher the code to learn what their treasure was....

Shortcake!!!!!

For the craft we painted fences! No one enlisted the help of their friends...and these were not white washed fences...they were very colorful....

They also glued clouds to their pictures....

The menu tonight was a country picnic: fried chicken, potatoes, biscuits...and our treasure....strawberry shortcake!

The weeks are flying by as we count down to our trip!!!

Movie Night- The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

This week's movie night was "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad". We chose this movie to familiarize ourselves with Mr. Toad's story from "The Wind and the Wilows". We always enjoy Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland!

We started the evening by making luggage tags. Mr. Toad wanted to travel and explore the world which sounds pretty fun to me! We discussed where we would like to travel to while making the luggage tags.

Mr. Toad's adventures center around his love of the new motor car. The kids all decorated their own motor cars!

They had fun adding their own touches including wheels, headlights, and brake lights. They parked all of their motor cars in the living room for the movie.

On the menu:
Mr. Toad's Wild Rice soup
Sleepy Hollow sweet corn
Mr. Winkle's steaks
Cyril Proudbottom's potatoes
Brom Bone's Brew
Icabod's icecream

Disney Movie Night- Tarzan

We kicked off the weekend with a Tarzan night. After Matt and I searched the DVDs we realized we own Tarzan 2 not the original. Thankfully our library has a great collection of DVDs.

We started the evening with a craft- decorating binoculars! We stapled two empty toilet paper rolls together then added a string. Very easy, and free! ;) They had fun coloring them.

Spencer seemed to be the one who enjoyed these the most. We have some play binoculars, so I think he thought it was cool to make his own.

Once everyone had their binoculars ready we went on a safari! We kept the vines up from last week's Indiana Jones night. People who stopped by during the week were slightly confused! :)

Matt hid stuffed animals around the house. They had fun searching for them...

The next activity was practicing our Tarzan calls. I'm usually asking them to stop yelling, so this went over really well!!!

We spread out a blanket in the living room to have a picnic dinner. On the menu:
*Safari Sandwiches
*Gorilla Grapes
*Animal crackers
*Jungle Juice
*Turk's banana pudding
*Tarzan's swinging vines (Twizzlers)

Spencer even watched the movie through his binoculars!

We chose to watch Tarzan because you can play and explore his tree house at Disneyland!!!

Here are a few photos of the girls enjoying the tree house in 2012...

I have movie nights planned from now until our Disneyland trip!! I hope it helps the weeks fly by!!!!

Family Movie Night- Indiana Jones

Tonight's movie night was....Indiana Jones!!!

Matt decorated the kitchen and living room with green streamers to look like vines. Spencer loved it and kept saying "woa dis!!!!!"

For a craft the kids each decorated their own "grail". They used yellow "gold"  paper cups which they glued beads to. Spencer really enjoyed this craft, and actually decorated his own cup!

The finished products were fun. They used their cups for dinner.

Then they played a "switch" game where they had to switch the "idol" (like how we used a Mickey? Ha!) for a bag without the altar falling over. There were no boulders to crush them, but they thought it was pretty fun! They each took a few turns.

Our altar was made from a paper towel tube with a paper plate on top...super fancy! ;)

Then we had dinner followed by watching the movie. On the menu:

Snake pit spaghetti
Boulder meatball
Bones (garlic bread)
Liquid gold (lemonade)
Golden treasure candies

We always enjoy watching the Indiana Jones show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. On our last family trip I was even selected to be in the show!

We are looking forward to experiencing Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland! It was being refurbished on our first Disneyland trip!!!
